For the 21st edition of the annual MUTEK festival in Montreal during 2020, the festival organizers commisioned a series of video animations to help establish a visual identity for the event which provides a platform for many of the world's greatest digital creators in visual arts and music.
Roles: Concept Design, Motion Design
Tools: Cinema4D, After Effects
In collaboration with AVX LAB
The 21st edition of the MUTEK festival was unlike any previous iteration of the festival, as it took place in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to the restrictions of the pandemic, the organizers implemented a hybrid approach to the festival with a robust online experience and livestream offerings, in addition to limited capacity in-person events.
The creative approach to the MUTEK visual identity mirrored the hybrid nature of the festival. For the visual identity, two different stylistic approaches to the animations were created to illustrate the duality of the festival, each inspired by a different stage of the life of the indigenous milkweed. The project was created in Cinema4D and After Effects and in close collaboration with AVX LAB.
